Be A PAL

Kids have something fun to do this summer — hang out with cops and some cool counselors.

That’s the word from the police department, which is gearing up for a second street year to expand its Police Athletic League (PAL) camp. It’s looking to double its size again.

The camp takes place from Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., for five weeks, between July 1 and Aug. 1. It’s free. Kids 8 to 13 years old can attend. They get picked up at neighborhood police stations by First Student buses.

At the camp, they play sports and board games, do arts and crafts and team-building exercises, and take field trips to AMF Bowling, Roller Magic, the Rock Cats baseball game, Peabody Museum, and Quassy Amusement Park. New Haven cops work with the Board of Ed and Yale police on running the camp, which Yale sponsors. Spots are still open. Click here for webpage from which you can download applications. For more information, contact Sgt. Elisa Tuozzoli (203 – 946-6137) or Sgt. Al McFadden (203 – 946-2888).
