Christine Ohlman is still at it.
A onetime New Haven teen rocker and recording artist who went on to serve as a Saturday Night Live Band vocalist for 30 years, the “Beehive Queen” performed a live show Friday night to a sold-out audience at the Milford Arts Center.
She sang her usual cover songs by artists like Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin. She also debuted a song from a new album, called “Alabama and Lonesome”; you can watch her perform it in the above video.
She walks the tracks at twilight
As the weather breaks
Like her heart …
I think of Christine’s music as having a little country grits mixed in with Northern flavor. Throughout the show people shouted, sang, and dance along to Ohlman and her band Rebel Montez’s sultry country-rock sound. Ohlman continues to regularly play local venues like Cafe Nine. I try to catch (and photograph) as many of her shows as I can; a long-distance rocker, she remains one of my favorite singers.
