Berket Tewolde, who was carried as an infant refugee out of Ethiopia, is poised to join a national youth leadership conference this summer in Washington D.C. But he’s over a thousand dollars short of the $1,900 fee.
Merryl Eaton, who works at Christian Community Action, is working to help 13-year-old Berket receive the money he needs.
The Newhallville 7th-grader is a rising star at Celentano School. His and his mom Sara Tewolde’s story of hardships overcome is told in this Independent article.
Berket has earned a $650 scholarship to the Junior National Young Leaders Conference, which falls short of the $1,900 program fee.
Eaton said that people who’d like to make a donation can contact her at (203) 676‑3110 or at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). “Contributions should be made out to Christian Community Action with Berket’s name in the memo line. They can be sent to me.”
