Sanders Considers New Haven Rally

(Update: Thursday) The Bernie Sanders for President campaign has obtained a permit to hold a rally Sunday night on the New Haven Green, two days before the Connecticut primary, city officials confirmed Thursday.

A Sanders spokesman said that doesn’t meant he rally will necessarily take place there; it’s one of several sites under consideration, he said.

The campaign had initially contacted the CT Tennis Center in Westville about the possibility of holding the rally there, then switched to the Green, which the parks department manages on behalf of a a little-known private self-perpetuating quintet called The Committee of the Proprietors of Common and Undivided Lands at New Haven that has owned it since 1805.

Sanders is running against Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary. Clinton plans to hold a gun-violence-themed event Thursday in Hartford.
