Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School’s (BRAMS) darkrooms are now mold-free, thanks to an “urgent” cleanup completed during winter break.
The Board of Education approved the purchase order for the mold remediation during a special meeting on Dec. 23. The work was finished during the district’s holiday break, which took place from Dec. 23 to Jan. 1.
According to the school board-approved “urgent request,” the purchase order was for the Newington based company Servpro to “perform mold remediation services including removal of affected building materials, and cleaning of all surfaces and HVAC ductwork in the BRAMS dark rooms for an amount not to exceed $35,854.76.” A darkroom is where photographers develop film.
The memorandum for the purchase order explained that the remediation would be done during the holiday break to avoid disruption during the school year. The document also included the open work order for the request put in at the school, which was submitted December 5. Click here to view the full document.
New Haven Public Schools (NHPS) spokesperson Justin Harmon confirmed on Friday that the mold remediation had indeed been completed over winter break.
