In an extraordinary display of talent and determination, Booker T. Washington Academy student Tiana Haynes has etched her name into the annals of middle school basketball history.
Last night, I had the privilege of witnessing two thrilling championship games that showcased not only the competitive spirit of young athletes but also the remarkable prowess of one exceptional player: Tiana Haynes.
The evening began with the Amistad Girls facing off against Betsy Ross in a hard fought championship showdown. Tiana, a standout guard, played for Amistad, as Booker T. Washington does not field a girls only team. She delivered a performance for the ages, scoring an astounding 36 points. Her ability to navigate the court with agility and precision was nothing short of mesmerizing. Each basket she made seemed to ignite the crowd, and her relentless drive inspired her teammates to elevate their game.
By the final buzzer, Tiana had not only led Amistad to victory but also secured the title of League MVP for the year — a well-deserved honor that reflects her hard work and dedication throughout the season.
But the night didn’t end there. Following the girls’ championship, Tiana transitioned seamlessly to the boys’ game, where Booker T. Washington Academy faced King Robinson.
In the most dramatic fashion, Tiana hit the winning three-point shot, sealing the championship for her team. The sheer achievement of participating in both games and making a game-winning play in the boys’ championship is a feat rarely seen in sports, let alone at the middle school level.
