New Haven may still be part of a blue state, but it is no longer a safe space for Blue State Coffee.
Blue State, the liberal-politics-on-its-sleeve network of local coffeehouses which gave customers tokens to choose causes to which to donate a portion of profits, plans to serve its last cup of joe at its last New Haven outpost at 5 p.m. Thursday at 534 Orange St. It recently closed its three other New Haven locations.
But the caffeinated brews will keep flowing at the Orange Street spot, along with some of New Haven’s tastiest hometown-baked breads.
Andrea Corazzini said he and partner Christian Festa have signed a deal to take over the business on Monday. By the end of next week they plan to reopen the spot as their fourth local G Cafe outpost.
Corazzini said he plans to keep the current staff in place at the location and operate it like the other G Cafe locations at 141 Orange St. (the original, started seven years ago) and the corner of Park and Chapel. A fourth New Haven G Cafe operates out of Tweed New Haven airport. Branford, too, has a G.
Besides the coffee and teas and sandwiches, G serves up the sublime loaves of bread made at the Whole G mothership bakery on Hamilton Street.
Blue State’s other three New Haven locations closed in October and were taken over by a different growing local coffeeshop chain, Common Grounds.
