Cabbie Punched, Robbed

A cab driver looking to pick up a fare in Westville picked up two blows to the face and lost needed equipment instead.

The incident occurred on Dayton Street on Dec. 27 around 4 a.m.

Here’s how top Westville cop Lt. Brian McDermott described the incident Sunday in his latest crime report emailed to neighbors:

The cab driver from the M7 Transit company stopped to pick up a man and woman who sought a cab ride. The pair entered the cab — and immediately began arguing about the cab’s fare policy, which is to pay up front. The argument escalated and the male punched the driver in the face twice,” McDermott wrote. The male then took $40 cash from the console, and a Samsung tablet used for fare dispatch and directions before both passengers fled the vehicle on foot.”

McDermott said the cops are in the process of applying for a warrant to arrest two suspects.
