City Breaks Ground On Ribicoff Cottages

Some West Rock seniors are closer to seeing their homes get a much-needed renewal, as the Housing Authority of New Haven broke ground on the Abraham Ribicoff Cottages this week.

The city fast-tracked the process of razing and rebuilding the dilapidated elderly and disabled public housing complex in February, since vulnerable tenants faced problems of mold and sewage issues. The first phase of the $40 million plan will see 55 of 106 units of Ribicoff constructed.

The development is part of a $200 million, 432-unit West Rock Revitalization Project, which marks a shift from isolated public housing toward self-sustaining communities.
