Starting Monday, the city will no longer require its unvaccinated employees to undergo weekly Covid-19 testing.
Human resources chief Stephen Librandi informed all employees — including public-school employees — of the change in a memo distributed Thursday.
Librandi asked employees to still update vaccination information into a city portal in case the testing mandate is revived. He said the testing mandate is being “suspended,” not “eliminated.”
“We are taking this step due to the lower levels of COVID 19 in our area which, we believe, does not justify the inconvenience and expense of mandatory weekly testing at this time. We also firmly believe that we can take this step because of the high percentage of City employees who chose to be vaccinated helped provide an additional layer of protection for themselves, others in the workforce and the public we serve,” Librandi wrote in the letter.
The mask-wearing mandate for city government buildings remains in place.
