Newhallville Clean-Up Crew Kicks It Up A Notch

Mayor Toni Harp grabbed a rake to join a hard-working crew of neighborhood volunteers who continue to put a shine on Newhallville.

The crew — organized by Honda Smith and Lynwood Dorsey of the public works department and Alder Delphine Clyburn — first spent a Saturday last month raking and bagging and generally cleaning portions of Winchester and Shelton avenues. (Read about that here.)

They returned, 40 to 50 strong, this past Saturday for another day of clean-up work starting at 8 p.m. Great timing: It was Freddie Fixer weekend, named after the parade started a half-century ago to foster neighborhood clean-ups.

The crew hit Dixwell from Bassett to Munson, and kept going. It made it to Willis Street, Dorman, Pond and Elizabeth, as well.
