It was a special night Thursday at Cafe 9 when touring singer-songwriter Joe Pug discovered that his new guitar sounded awful when amplified. (Someone just stole the guitar he’d been playing for 15 years.) So Pug improvised: He invited the audience forward, including taking seats on the floor by the stage, for an intimate un-amplified set. It was his first appearance in New Haven, and a memorable one. The above video shows him performing his song “Not So Sure” and John Prine’s “Paradise,” with the help of the crowd.
