Newly elected State Treasurer Erick Russell of New Haven was sworn in this week with an opportunity to step up to powerful people in his own party who have been torpedoing a once-in-a-generation chance to give kids born into poverty some long-term help in closing the generational wealth gap. Will Russell step up?
Laquvia Jones stepped up after losing one son to street gun violence. She confronted a room of shooters and potential shooters in order to put a human face on an ongoing tragedy and beg them to consider the consequences of their actions. Now she has lost a second son the same way — and she showed up again to urge us all to step up with her. Will we?
