Cops Probe Shooting, Stabbing

Police raced to the scene of two separate violent incidents in town shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday.

Here’s what happened, according to Lt. Ken Blanchard:

One of the incidents occurred on Kensington Street, where a woman ran out of a house to tell police that her boyfriend had been stabbed inside. The boyfriend, who’s 23, was stabbed twice in the back. As of 9:15 p.m. he was being operated on at the Hospital of St. Raphael and listed in critical condition.

Police have a lead on a possible suspect, the girlfriend’s cousin. The victim and his girlfriend had reportedly been in an argument.

Meanwhile, around the same time, shots rang out on Washington Avenue in the Hill neighborhood. Two brothers were shot while standing outside a building, one in the left hand and left thigh, the other in the right elbow. They went to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Members of the police department’s Bureau of Identification have found at least 14 shell casings at the scene.

The brothers are both 21 years old, but not twins. They claimed to police that they have no idea why they were shot, that they were just standing outside when suddenly they heard shots.”
