Hamden animal-control cops obtained a warrant for a Blue Hills Avenue home — and found a lot of animal life inside.
Some of it was no longer alive.
They entered the home Monday morning, and found it “uninhabitable,” according to hamden police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.
They “were greeted by two large rats,” Smith wrote in a release. They searched the house, finding and seizing “26 cats, 6 dogs, 2 caged squireels and an owl. One of the dogs was lifeless.”
They also seized two dead cats and a dead woodchuck.
The surviving animals are receiving vaccinations and other medical treatment at Mount Carmel Veterinary Hospital, North Haven Animal Hospital and Ridgehill Animal Hospital, according to Smith. A “necropsy” is planned for the dead animals.
State, Cheshire, East Haven, North Haven, and Southbury animal-control cops assisted the Hamden officers in the operation.
