Connecticut’s first resident has tested positive for the coronavirus (aka COVID-19): a “a resident of Wilton who is 40 to 50 years of age.“br>
So Gov. Ned Lamont’s office reported in a release issued Sunday.
“The person most likely became infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 during a recent trip to California and sought medical care shortly after returning to Connecticut,” the release stated.
As of noon, the state reports that 29 other residents have been tested for the virus, all proving negative. Another eight have rest results pending.
• New Haven has no reported cases yet of the virus. But “[g]iven our limited ability to test because of the limited number of test kits provided by the federal government, there may already be people in New Haven who have COVID19,” Mayor Justin Elicker stated in a blast message Sunday to New Haveners. He repeated pleas for clean hygiene, staying home if sick, and friends and family of seniors “respect[ing] visitor policies at long-term care facilities.”

CBS
Chris Murphy Sunday on “Face the Nation.”
• Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, speaking on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” called for more federal assistance for paid leave for workers testing positive for the virus, and for cities that might have to deal with closures.
“I think we need to be prepared for school closures and business closures. And we need to understand that no city is going to take those measures unless there is some assistance from the federal government.,” Murphy said
“We should be talking about right now are things like paid sick leave, putting the federal government in a position to be able to assist workers if they have to stay home to take care of a sick child or to quarantine themselves. Instead, we’re talking about industry bailouts and tax cuts. We should be talking about assistance for average Americans. And that’s not a conversation that’s happening.” (Click here to watch or read the full interview.)
