It took a coronavirus to prevent Rosa DeLauro from attending the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
DeLauro’s office announced in a release this week that the New Haven U.S. Congresswoman has tested positive for Covid-19.
She described her symptoms as mild.
“While I tested negative earlier this week, today I tested positive for Covid-19. Thankfully, I am only experiencing mild symptoms and am grateful for the protection that comes from being vaccinated and boosted. I encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated and get boosted,” the release quoted DeLauro as stating.
Covid’s timing could have been worse: DeLauro, chair of the House Appropriations Committee, was able to oversee the completion and passage of a Fiscal Year 2022 omnibus spending bill this week before the positive test result.
But the test result did mean that she for the first time in memory couldn’t make it to that otherwise must-attend event for elected officials, Sunday’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
“While I was looking forward to marching in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and had big plans to celebrate our community projects and all that we accomplished for working families in the federal spending package we passed this week, I will be isolating and working remotely from my home in New Haven. My office remains fully operational for the people of Connecticut.”
Ex-President Barack Obama, too, reported testing positive for Covid-19 this weekend and experiencing only mild symptoms.
