Crash Kills 2 Seniors

An 82-year-old New Haven woman and an 83-year-old East Haven woman lost their lives in a car crash Tuesday.

Here’s what happened, according to a report by State Trooper Thomas Rochette:

The crash occurred on the Route 82 Connector in Haddam around 3 p.m.

Patricia Tucker, 82, who lived on Middletown Avenue in New Haven, was driving a 2007 Toyota Highlander eastbound in the westbound lane of the connector. Tucker, a Hillhouse High School graduate who was a former Knights of Columbus employee, had on her shoulder and lap belt.

Berthina Mcnair, 83, of East Haven was a passenger in the Toyota. She, too, wore her shoulder and lap belt.

The Toyota collided head-on with a 2022 Ford traveling westbound in the left lane of the connector.

Tucker was taken by Lifestar to Hartford Hospital, where she was later declared dead. McNair was declared dead at the scene.

A passenger in the Ford, Tavares Lamar Mazyck, 22, of Hamden, was also taken by Lifestar to Hartford Hospital for treatment of serious injuries,” according to the police report. The driver of the Ford, Aveon Tyreek Woods, also a Hamden 22-year-old, went by ambulance to Middlesex Hospital for treatment of suspected injuries.”

Police investigating the incident ask anyone with information to call state police Troop F at 860 – 399-2100.
