Wooster Square Democratic candidate Ellen Cupo had a good reason for not spending all day outside Ward 8’s polling place: She was busy giving birth to her and her husband’s first child.
At 11:09 a.m. at Yale New Haven Hospital’s Saint Raphael’s campus, Cupo and her husband Ian Dunn welcomed to the world Wooster Square’s newest constituent: Hunter Ian Cupo Dunn.
Hunter was born seven pounds and two ounces large, and 20 1/4 inches tall.
Meanwhile, Cupo, a Democrat, won an uncontested election to the Ward 8 seat on the Board of Alders.
“We are so happy to welcome Hunter to our family — and what a day to welcome him!” Cupo, who ran unopposed for the open Ward 8 aldermanic seat, wrote in an email to the Independent.
“Today my family grows so much both at home and across my neighborhood; as they say, it takes a village.
“To my neighbors in Wooster Square, and across Ward 8, thank you for voting for me. Thank you for giving me the confidence to start off on these new journeys, with you by my side. I’ll see you out there — don’t hesitate to come say hi!”
