An argument over loud music turned violent on Fowler Street, as did a pit bull that escaped from a room at the New Haven Inn.
Those are among the incidents recorded in top West Hills/ Westville/ West Rock/ Beverly Hills/ Amity cop Lt. Rose Dell’s latest weekly crime roundup. Her report follows:
FROM 10/6/19 to 10/12/19 POLICE RESPONDED TO 167 CALLS FOR SERVICE IN THE WESTVILLE/WEST HILLS SECTION OF NEW HAVEN. THE FOLLOWING IS A BRIEF SUMMARY OF NOTABLE INCIDENTS:
On 10/7, at 4:16 a.m., police responded to the Regal Inn Motel on the report of shots fired. Officers canvassed the rear lot and found four spent shell casings, a glass window that appeared to have been struck by gunfire, a black cell phone, a walking cane and a coffee cup. Dispatch then informed officers that a male gunshot victim walked into the St. Raphael’s Campus of Yale-New Haven Hospital. His gunshot wound was deemed non-life threatening. Detectives responded to the scene and will review video surveillance footage and speak to witnesses and involved parties.
Around the same time as the shooting, dispatch received an alarm call at Enterprise Rent-A-Car on Amity Road. Officers found the glass front door was smashed. No one was located in the store, and a cabinet with key hooks was open. The branch manager arrived and said the vehicle keys are stored in the cabinet during the day but are placed in a safe at closing. Officers reviewed video surveillance footage and saw three juvenile approach the establishment, one holding a large concrete block. Two of the juveniles wore hooded sweatshirts with hoods tied tightly around their faces. The third wore a Chicago White Sox cap.
On 10/7, a computer bag was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on West Rock Avenue. Friday around lunchtime a resident left her cooler bag and a work bag unlocked in a parking lot on Kenter Place. The two bags were missing when she returned. Overnight on 10/14, a car break-in occurred on Whittier Road. A backpack and a laptop were stolen from the vehicle.
A vacant residence was broken into on South Genesee Street sometime between 10/4 – 10/5. Copper piping was stolen, and there was a significant amount of water damage to the basement. The theft and damage totaled around $4,000-$5,000.
Police responded to Fowler Street on Saturday morning for a neighbor dispute. The resident reported that she encountered the neighbor who lives below her as she left the complex to take her dog for a walk. He confronted her about the loud music she played the previous evening. The argument became heated, and she called him a “wife beater.” He then struck her twice, once on the right side of her face and then on her mouth. She was transported to the hospital for her injuries. Officers located the neighbor, and he admitted that he argued with his neighbor about the music but denied the assault. He was arrested for Breach of Peace and Assault.
Friday evening Officers responded to the New Haven Inn for an animal complaint. A Pitbull escaped from a hotel room and bit another resident three times. The dog owner said she opened the door for her mother, and the dog ran out. She chased the dog but was unable to catch him. Animal control arrived on scene and placed the dog in quarantine for ten days.
