A state legislator who represents a handful of blocks in the Hill — and most of West Haven — was arrested Wednesday for allegedly defrauding the City of West Haven of more than $600,000.
That state lawmaker is Michael DiMassa.
DiMassa, 30, is a Democrat who represents the 116th District in the state House of Representatives.
His district is comprised almost entirely of West Haven — except for a few blocks on the Hill side of the New Haven-West Haven border near where Columbus Avenue, Ella T. Grasso Boulevard, and Orange Avenue intersect. That sliver falls in New Haven’s Ward 4, where people vote at Truman School on Election Day.
According to an email press release sent out Wednesday afternoon by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, DiMassa’s company Compass Investment Group LLC fraudulently billed the City of West Haven and its “COVID-19 Grant Department” between February and September for consulting services that were not performed.
In addition to serving as a state rep, DiMassa also works for the City of West Haven as an administrative assistant to the City Council.
