The annual turkey drive conducted in the memory of the late Dixwell activist Mae Ola Riddick is kicking into high gear.
Organizers are looking to feed thousands of families in the Dixwell neighborhood. To register to donate or pick up food, or to volunteer, call (203) 660 8013 or visit this website. In the past thousands of families have received turkeys, fresh vegetables, canned foods, along with hats and coats.
Food pick-up with take place at the Dixwell police substation at 26 Charles Street (corner of Dixwell Avenue) this coming Sunday and Monday and Tuesday from noon to 7 p.m.
The annual drive is organized by Metashar Dillon with the help of top Dixwell cop Lt. Sam Brown (pictured). They came on WNHH radio’s “Dateline New Haven” to talk about why they do the drive every year, how it works, and what it means.
