Driver Hits Pedestrian

A Beaver Hills man crossing the street in his neighborhood went to the hospital after a driver hit him.

Police are investigating the incident, which occurred around 7:10 p.m. Wednesday at Diamond and Blake streets. The pedestrian, David Baremeski, who’s 31, suffered serious head and back injuries, according to police. They described the injuries as non-life-threatening. Police offered no other details Thursday about the incident.

An armed man held up the Qwik Stop Deli on Farren Avenue at 1:18 p.m. Wednesday, according to Lt. Lisa Dadio.

Meanwhile, police have been on high alert, especially in the Dwight-Kensington area, following the resurfacing of ongoing rumors about street gangs threatening to shoot cops. Street-level frisks have increased in the area. In recent days tensions among local gangs, especially from Newhallville and the Tre (Dwight-Kensington), have reportedly risen amid a series of retaliatory shootings.

We have recently received some threats. We have increased our patrols in that area and increased visibility,” Capt. Joann Peterson said.
