A 37-year-old New Haven man is in the hospital in “critical but stable” condition after being struck by a hit-and-run driver.
So reports New Haven police spokesperson Capt. Anthony Duff.
The crash occurred on Sherman Avenue between Elm and Whalley Tuesday a little before 9 p.m.
Police believe the driver was traveling northbound on Sherman in a four-door “mid-2000s” Honda sedan when the pedestrian exited a parked car near his home and began to cross in the middle of the block, Duff stated.
“A nearby 40-year-old New Haven woman heard the impact of the pedestrian being struck by the car. The Good Samaritan went to the injured pedestrian and began to render aid. Lying in the street, the 37-year-old New Haven man had suffered serious injuries,” Duff wrote in a release issued Wednesday afternoon.
The Samaritan couldn’t find a pulse. So she performed CPR until fire and ambulance workers arrived to take over the job. Then the pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital.
The police department’s Accident Reconstruction is investigating. Duff asked anyone with relevant information to call police at (203) 946‑6316.
Last Thursday a hit-and-run Fed Ex driver struck and killed a pedestrian on Chapel Street.
