Edge Expansion OK’d

While a dispute with a neighboring property owner remained unresolved, the City Plan Commission Wednesday night approved the expansion of the Edge of the Woods natural foods store.

The matter now heads back to the Board of Zoning Appeals for a final decision.

The market at 379 Whalley Ave. is looking for city permission to expand its business with the incorporation of a warehouse space at the end of the parking lot it shares with several other stores. The man who owns the building that holds those stores has objected to the plan. Through his lawyer, he told the Board of Zoning Appeals last week that warehouse’s increased truck traffic through the lot would cripple his tenants’ businesses.

Ed Mattison, chairman of the City Plan Commission, said the dispute was a matter of civil law” between the two property owners, and not in the commission’s purview.

The commission voted unanimously to approve Edge of the Woods’ application, with no discussion.
