A 27-year-old New Havener named Shanice Reyes was struck and killed by a car Friday evening on a deadly stretch of Whalley Avenue.
City police spokesperson Officer Scott Shumway sent out an email press release Monday morning about that latest pedestrian fatality.
He wrote that, on Friday at around 6:09 p.m., New Haven police officers received a call regarding a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Whalley Avenue between Dayton Street and Emerson Street.
Responding officers found Reyes “laying in the roadway.” An ambulance transported her to Yale New Haven Hospital “where she succumbed to her injuries.”
“The vehicle involved in the crash, and its operator, remained on-scene. No charges have been filed at this time,” Shumway wrote.
The New Haven Police Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and are leading the investigation.
