Hamden police are investigating an intentionally set” two-alarm fire at a three-family house on Helen Street.

The town’s fire department arrived at 14 Helen St. Wednesday at 5:37 a.m. and stretched a hose line to a third-floor apartment, where they encountered a kitchen fire that had spread to the attic,” Fire Marshal Brian Dolan reported in a release issued Wednesday afternoon.

They got the fire under control by 6:30 a.m. The third-floor apartment’s occupant went to Yale New Haven Hospital for medical evaluation,” Dolan reported.

The town declared the house uninhabitable and worked with the Red Cross to find lodging and otherwise help the other two apartments’ six displaced occupants.

The fire marshal determined that the fire was intentionally set in the kitchen,” a matter forwarded to the police to investigate.

This is an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the public,” Dolan stated.
