FD Sends Out A Signal 4— To Help Furloughed Workers’ Families

The fire department has sent out a signal 4 — for citizens needing help — not for a fire, but for the community to support neighbors hurt by the recent federal government shutdown.

Even though the shutdown has ended, furloughed workers are still playing catchup and in some cases struggling to put food on the table.

So the New Haven Firemen’s Benevolent Association has teamed up with the Connecticut Food Bank, FISH of Greater New haven, and Holy Infant Church to host a pop-up pantry” to help the families.

They’re asking everyone to donate food this week leading up to the event. Please drop off non-perishable food donations at one of the city’s 10 firehouses.

That food will be gathered and distributed to families in need this Saturday, March 2, at the Regional Fire School, 230 Ella T Grasso Blvd. Former furloughed government workers can come any time between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to pick up food; the general public is welcome to participate between 11 a.m. and noon.
