One of the main east side outposts for groceries amid the Covid-19 pandemic will close its doors to in-store shopping until Saturday white it undergoes a deep clean.
The store, Ferraro’s Market at Grand Avenue near Hamilton, is taking orders online or by phone for delivery or curbside pick-up through Friday.
On Saturday it plans to reopen for a day to a limited number of in-store shoppers at a time, with plans beyond that unclear. (The store is closed on Sunday.)
The immediate reason for the in-store-shopping pause is a “full clean-up and sterilization,” one of the managers, Joe Fran, told the Independent Monday. “We want to keep everyone safe.”
No staffers have tested positive for Covid-19, Fran said. “We’re all still coming in and working.”
He said shoppers’ best bet is to place orders online here. Shoppers without internet access can call in orders at (203) 776‑2462.
The crew is aiming to have all orders ready within one day, Fran said. That would place Ferraro’s ahead of the pack of other food outlets struggling to keep up with the crushing demand from customers looking to avoid the virus by placing delivery orders.
As for the fate of in-store shopping next week, “we’re not sure what’s going on beyond” Saturday, Fran said. “We’re going to play it by ear.”
