Firefighters pack up after putting out a fire at an Annex garbage truck garage.

A garbage truck caught fire in the garage of an Annex dumpster rental service Wednesday afternoon. One of the garbage truck business’s employees was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At 2:23 p.m., 24 city firefighters responded to the fire at All American Waste, a dumpster truck rental service based out of 19 Wheeler St..

Battalion Chief Ryan DiVito.

Battalion Chief Ryan DiVito said one of the waste trucks caught fire while inside the business’s garage.

There was a worker inside at the time,” he said. He said the worker was transported to the hospital for evaluations of non-life-threatening injuries, and that the fire was under control in about 20 minutes.

Fire Marshall Bobby Doyle said the truck had been parked for about 2 hours before the fire started. He said two employees were adjusting the trucks brakes when the fire broke out, but that that mechanical work was simultaneous to, but unrelated to, the cause of the fire.

He said the fire department is currently investigating the cause of the fire, but that it looked like it had started from within the truck itself. He said it did not look like arson.

All American Waste mechanic Asher Benedetto.

Asher Benedetto, a 19-year-old mechanic at All American Waste, said he had been working on the truck when it caught fire. He said he helped his colleague out from under the truck right as the flames erupted.

Fire was coming down from above,” he said about his colleague’s experience under the truck this afternoon. Shit gets so hot out here.” He said in his one year working for All American Waste, he’s never seen a fire break out in one of the trucks.
