Fire broke out on Ella Grasso Boulevard Tuesday — on purpose. So firefighters could put it out.
Make that firefighters-in-training.
In the 12th week of their training, the current class of cadets “have begun to conduct live fire training,” reported Assistant Chief Matthew Marcarelli. Tuesday they were “simulating a flammable liquid fire. From here they will advance to car fires, flashover training and will finish with structure fire training.”

Acting Director Antonio Almodovar and his staff are leading the training, which “lasts 22 weeks and includes fire and EMS certifications,” according to Marcarelli.
