(Updated) The city’s fireworks show has been pushed back to Saturday at 9 p.m. due to inclement weather associated with Tropical Storm Arthur.
The show was supposed to go on on Friday.

The sky will explode on Friday, Mayor Toni Harp announced Tuesday.
That’s thanks to Wells Fargo Bank, which is kicking in $12,500 to help pay for the city’s annual Fourth of July fireworks display, to take place on Friday at 9:15 p.m.
On Tuesday morning atop East Rock, Mayor Harp (at right in photo) accepted a ceremonial oversized check from Wells Fargo VP Kimberly Chamberlain. Harp wore a firework-festooned dress for the occasion.
The fireworks will launch from nearby “Indian Head” rock, with prime viewing areas at the summit and foot of East Rock.
East Rock will have room for 250 cars in the park’s lot. A shuttle will run to the summit. Pedestrians can walk in before 6 p.m., but will have to take the shuttle back down after the fireworks.
Chamberlain (at left in photo) said Wells Fargo is happy to support the display “to honor those who came before us” and made America “a beacon of freedom.”
Mayor Harp promised an “extravagant” show of fireworks. She invited all residents to take part in the national tradition, and to continue their own family traditions of watching fireworks on the Fourth.
If it rains on Friday, the fireworks will be rescheduled for Saturday.
