It was a night for mothers and daughters — onstage mothers and daughters, and real-life mothers and daughters like Barbara Greenberg and her daughter Alison (pictured). The occasion was a fund-raising show and buffet at the Little Theatre. Gone Dishin’ (you know better than to ask who that is) was there, of course; read on for her report.

As the song admonishes,“Mothers, be good to your daughters”!
The Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven’s Women’s Division and their Women of Vision Society closed ranks to produce a spectacular fund raising event that featured Sherry Glaser in her one-woman show Family Secrets. Glaser was the writer and performer; the play was a theatrical portrait of five members of a Jewish family, transplanted from the Bronx to Southern California. Awarded raves from the NY Times and the LA Drama Critics Award, its hilarity transcends cultural boundaries. When it opened in New York, in 1993, I was in the audience; Debbie Bisno, serving as the local producer, presented an even better version than I remembered.
The performance was preceded by a catered buffet at The Little Theater on Lincoln Street. The mothers were joined by their daughters and daughters-in-law for a good look and a healthy laugh at the craziness of their own lives. Event co-chairs Darcy Mc Graw Altman, Iny Karp and Stacey Jackson Perkins were surrounded by a committee that other fund-raisers would consider a “dream team”: Amy Aaland, Lynn Brotman, Harriet Cooper, Jody Ellant;Susan Birke-Fiedler, Michele Glasman, Lindy Lee Gold, Claudia Heyman, Laura Kaplan, Robin Kramer, Shelly Pinkert, Lori Polachek, Marcia Reiter, Elizabeth Rubin, Marsha Schwartz, Ros Sperling, Linda and Robyn Teplitzky and Ana White. Shirley Trachten and Joyce Lender (who really did know the whole Glaser family) were there as underwriters of the evening.
Never have so many women had so much fun and, of course — ¬¶ — ¬¶All for the Greater Good !
