GOP Endorses Barber For Probate Judge

Jerald Barber.

New Haven voters will have a choice on Nov. 8 about who will become the next probate judge.

The Republican Party announced Tuesday that it has endorsed attorney Jerald Barber to run for the position against the endorsed Democratic candidate, Americo Carchia. Barber had previously won the nomination of the Independent Party, so his name will appear on two ballot lines.

The two candidates are competing to succeed Probate Judge Clifton Graves Jr., who is retiring.

Based at 200 Orange St., the court handles trusts, wills, estates, and guardianship decisions.

The GOP Town Committee release characterized the Barber endorsement as fitting into the rich legacy of our party’s founding and continued historical legacy of fighting for freedom and equal rights for all.”

Barber grew up in New Haven. After attending Hopkins School, he earned his undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College and his law degree at the University of Colorado. He built up a local law practice; he was most recently in the news for filing the successful lawsuit against the Elicker Administration for seeking to indefinitely keep an acting” police chief whose nomination had been rejected by the Board of Alders.
