(Updated) As New Haven completes the process of approving a new fiscal year budget, it will also start looking for a new budget director to craft next year’s plan.
The current budget director, Michael Gormany, is retiring after a 20-year career in city government. He has served as budget director since 2017, with part of that time spent doing double duty as city controller.
Gormany’s last day is April 26, according to a release issued by City Hall Wednesday. He plans to continue working part-time during the search for his replacement. And he will step into a new job as West Haven’s finance director starting April 29.
In the release, Mayor Justin Elicker noted that the city has had “five straight years of budget surpluses” and built up the rainy day fund to $43.9 million under Gormany’s tenure. He called Gormany “a wise and steady hand” who “has helped the city manage our budget in an ethical and responsible way.”
