Police are investigating a Saturday afternoon shooting in Beaver Hills that left a 17-year-old dead.
Here’s what happened, according to city spokeswoman Jessica Mayorga:
At 1:19 p.m., officers responded to Glen Road and the Boulevard on a report of shots fired. They found a crime scene of “ballistic evidence” and shattered glass. Witnesses told them that the occupants of two cars had exchanged gunfire just before police arrived.
Patrol officers later found a car at Yale-New Haven Hospital that was “riddled with bullet holes.” They detained the driver, who told them that he had driven to the hospital to get treatment for his passenger. The passenger, who turned 17 this month, had been shot in the back in the gunfire in Beaver Hills. He died from his wound shortly after he arrived at the hospital.
The driver of the car was arrested after being identified as one of the people who was responsible for the shootout.
The Major Crimes Unit (MCU) has developed a number of leads, which are being investigated. People with useful information about the incident are asked to call (203) 946‑6304 and speak with MCU detectives.
