Gunfire Round-up: 2‑Year-Old Escapes Injury Inside Targeted Car

A 2‑year-old was inside an SUV struck by gunfire Friday night.

The gunfire occurred on Shelton Avenue near Morse Street around 10:30 p.m., according to a release Hamden police spokesperson Detective Sean Dolan. A couple and their 2 year-old child were inside an SUV there when someone shot at it, and a bullet entered the passenger compartment.” No one was injured.

It was one of numerous incidences of gunfire over the weekend.

As a result of the uptick in gunfire, Hamden police have increased their Halloween weekend plans, including adding bicycle patrols, motorcycle units and further deployment of the Crime Deterrent Unit,” Dolan reported.

Four hours after the Shelton Avenue incident, someone fired at a vehicle stopped at a red light in the area of Leeder Hill Drive.” Several bullets hit the vehicle, but did not hit the woman behind the wheel.

And at around 5:30 p.m. Friday, an occupant of a late’90s/early2000s-model red or maroon Acura with tinted windows fired a handgun at a house on Fourth Street near Warren Street. A bullet went inside a room. A person was inside the room, but did not get hit.

Detectives are investigating the shootings.

New Haven reported a shooting Saturday at 1:50 a.m.: a 26-year-old North Haven man and a 41-year-old new Haven woman were struck by bullets on Crown Street between College and Temple. Both victims are listed in stable condition at Yale New Haven Hospital, according to police spokesperson Officer Scott Shumway.
