Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett Tuesday ended the last vestige of the town’s Covid-19 mask mandate by allowing people to enter municipal buildings without covering their faces, effective Wednesday.
Garrett did that issuing a formal “recission of remainder of emergency order no. 11 regarding mandatory use of face masks in Town of Hamden buildings.”
Garrett had issued an emergency indoor mask mandate last Dec. 11 for indoor public spaces in town in the face of the Omnicron-variant-fueled upsurge in Covid cases. Then she lifted the order in part on Feb. 25, leaving it in place only for municipal buildings. Tuesday’s order does away with that last part.
“WHEREAS, after examination of the data and consultation with professionals, the Mayor has determined that … the wearing of masks or cloth coverings that are compliant with CDC guidelines shall no longer be required in Town owned buildings. Nothing shall preclude businesses and organizations from requiring the universal use of masks or face coverings or requiring staff to wear masks in settings under their ownership or control,” reads the sixth of six “WHEREAS” clauses in Tuesday’s order.
New Haven’s municipal-building mask mandate remains in place.
