Hamden Hall and the University of New Haven have partnered up to create a new three-credit college-level course in business analytics for high school students.

Hamden spokesperson Dawn Miceli announced that new partnership in an email press release on Jan. 17.

The course will include such topics as data visualization, elementary predictive analytics concepts, fitting regressions and logistic models, and working with the computer language R.

The Greater New Haven Community has so much to offer our students,” Hamden Hall Head of School Bob Izzo is quoted as saying in the release.

In addition to all of the resources that our students have been able to tap into at Yale University over the years, there are a number of other institutions of higher education, such as the University of New Haven, that are available to Hamden Hall Upper Schoolers. We want to work to create unique and worthwhile opportunities for our students.”

The course is slated to begin on June 8.

Hamden Hall Country Day School has formed a partnership with the University of New Haven (UNH) to offer students a three-credit accelerated college course in business analytics.

Head of School Bob Izzo announced that the opportunity will become available to Upper School students on June 8.

The Greater New Haven Community has so much to offer our students,” said Izzo. In addition to all of the resources that our students have been able to tap into at Yale University over the years, there are a number of other institutions of higher education, such as the University of New Haven, that are available to Hamden Hall Upper Schoolers. We want to work to create unique and worthwhile opportunities for our students.”

Hamden Hall parent Anthony Scillia, a CPA and Regional Managing Partner at Marcum Accountants in New Haven, helped spearhead the initiative, according to Izzo. Scillia serves as a member of the UNH Board of Governors and is an alumnus of the university.

The course will be taught by Armando E. Rodriguez, Ph.D., Chair of Economics and Business Analytics at UNH. Topics such as data visualization, elementary predictive analytics concepts, fitting regressions and logistic models, working with the computer language R, and more will be covered.

Classes will be held at UNH’s Business School campus in Orange and will run for three weeks. Students will be required to attend class Monday through Thursday for three hours per day.

Izzo noted that the course is highly useful programming that has many business applications. Furthermore, students will have to meet specific criteria to participate.

As we move forward, we hope to expand the Hamden Hall/UNH partnership,” said Izzo. UNH is a growing university, and it is right in our backyard! For example, UNH is nationally recognized for its forensic program. Some of our students are already interested in that field. It is exciting to think about all of the possibilities.”

Hamden Hall, a PreSchool through Grade 12 academic community, forms partnerships with the best resources in the area to bring learning to life for students and to provide innovative and engaging academic opportunities.
