Local activist and philanthropist Wendy Hamilton files a registration form in the City Clerk’s office Thursday to run for mayor.
She marked her party affiliation as Democratic. She also checked off a box to denote that she will not form a candidate committee to raise money.
Hamilton told the Independent she hopes to qualify for the Democratic mayoral ballot.
“I must be in the debates no matter what as a voice for decency and regime change,” she stated. “If I have to walk every street and get each signature alone I will do it or die trying.”
Democratic incumbent Mayor Toni Harp said she plans to run this year for a fourth two-year term. Justin Elicker, who ran against Harp in 2013, filed papers this week to run in a Democratic primary; he said he is reserving the option of running as an independent candidate in November if he loses the primary.
