Two weeks after she lost the city’s Democratic mayoral primary by 16 points, incumbent Mayor Toni Harp said she still has not decided whether or not she will continue her reelection campaign.
Harp, a longtime alder and state Senator who first took office as mayor in 2014, gave that update Tuesday afternoon after a press conference celebrating the president of Sierra Leone’s visit to City Hall.
Harp has a spot on the Working Families Party line on the Nov. 5 general election ballot. She said on primary night that she didn’t know if she would continue pursuing her campaign; some supporters have urged her to continue running, while others have moved to support the candidacy of Democratic primary victor Justin Elicker. The Working Families Party itself said it doesn’t plan to help Harp run in November.
Harp was asked by the Independent at a City Hall event Tuesday evening whether she plans to continue her campaign. “I’ll get back to you on that,” she replied.
On Wednesday she told a business gathering to expect an announcement on Sunday, according to this story by the Register’s Mary O’Leary.
