Musicians Tune Up For Refugees

An all-star cast of New Haven musicians is heading to Goatville Sunday night to raise their voices — and money and consciousness — for New Haven’s ongoing quest to resettle refugees here.

The occasion is a Harvest Celebration,” organized by Fernando Pinto as part of his ongoing Sunday night East Rock Concert Series at the mActivity Sitting Room at 285 Nicoll St.

The celebration — with proceeds benefitting Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services (IRIS) — begins this Sunday, Nov. 24, at 6:30 p.m.

The headliners include Westville’s Thabisa, who’s performing with guitarist Cliff Schloss; and singer-songwriter Steve Mednick.

The three —one an immigrant from South Africa, one a son of a Jamaican immigrant, one a grandson of Polish and Ukrainian immigrants, respectively — popped in to the WNHH FM studio Friday to perform some of their tunes and speak about why they’re joining the Celebration.
