Beloved WTNH weathercaster Dr. Mel Goldstein — who could break down blowing winds for viewers without the need of blow-drying assistance — died at age 66 Wednesday.
U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro reflected on Goldstein’s plain-language prowess in a statement released upon news of his passing.
“Dr. Mel was a brilliant scientist, a trusted voice in Connecticut and a dear friend. His unique ability to translate complicated science into easy-to-understand information coupled with his energetic personality helped make him into a local legend,” DeLauro said.
“And in bringing his personal battle with multiple myeloma to the public, Dr. Mel transformed the most frightening experience of his life into one of the most inspiring of ours. As someone who has had cancer, I have enormous respect and admiration for his willingness to be so open about something so personal. Rain or shine, Dr. Mel brightened all our days.”
