A hit-and-run driver injured city Police Officer David LaVorgna Saturday night.
The driver, who was been behind the wheel of what was described as a black Nissan SUV, struck LaVorgna on Long Wharf Drive around 10:15 p.m. and then fled, according to police spokeswoman Sgt. Shayna Kendall. She said the department will release more information about the incident later Sunday.
Lavorgna was treated at the hospital and then released, according to Chief Otoniel Reyes, who said he spoke with the officer.
“We are grateful that Officer LaVorgna was not seriously injured,” Reyes said. “This incident is a glaring reminder of the risks our officers face ay in and day out.
Lavorgna was sworn in to the force in May 2017 and has patrolled the Hill.
