Columbus House announced Friday that Louis Gill will be leading the homelessness services nonprofit as chief executive officer, effective May 1.
“We at Columbus House believe Louis’s credentials and his dedication to be most impressive,” Columbus House Board Chair Stephen Ziegelmayer wrote in a press release. Gill has decades of experience in homelessness services, notably as CEO of Bethany Services, Inc., “where he expanded emergency shelter, rapid re-housing, and job development programs.
“Under his leadership, Bethany Services helped more than a thousand people secure permanent housing annually and created employment opportunities for individuals facing challenges to securing jobs.”
Gill’s appointment comes more than a year after Margaret Middleton stepped down as CEO on March 1, 2024.
Most recently, Gill served as chief program officer at Community Action Partnership of Kern, which serves more than 100,000 people annually. Gill holds a Master of Nonprofit Administration from the University of San Francisco and a Bachelor of Art in Spanish from San Francisco State University. He began his career in San Francisco, Calif., and has spent time in Mexico City, “where he developed a deep appreciation for Mexican culture, language, and traditions — and a weakness for chilaquiles!”
He and his wife, Kate, have been married for 29 years and have three adult children.
“We are convinced that Louis’s deep commitment to housing solutions, program innovation, and community partnerships makes him an excellent leader for our mission and are delighted to welcome him to the Columbus House community as our CEO,” Ziegelmayer stated.
