Yale-New Haven Hospital donated 10,000 pens, pencils, notebooks, backpacks and other supplies to Newhallville’s Lincoln-Bassett School, as part of its annual United Way fundraising campaign.
During the visit by hospital leaders, school Principal Janet Brown-Clayton shared her vision for the school, which has partnered with ConnCAT to offer after-school programs for students who want further enrichment or tutorials.
Many students said during the visit that they had personal connections with the hospital, with relatives either working or being treated there, making it a apt recipient of the donation. “I love your school,” Yale-New Haven Hospital Senior Vice President for Operations Michael D. Holmes told the third-graders. “It feels very comfortable, so we know you guys are learning.”
In partnership with the city and New Haven Public Schools, United Way is leading Lincoln-Basset’s newly-implemented Boost! model, which brings together a child’s various support systems to ensure academic success.
The hospital donated 10,000 school supplies to John C. Daniels School, as well.
