The senior living community known as The Towers at Tower Lane will be receiving $20 million to improve conditions and reach broader environmental goals, thanks to HUD’s Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP).
U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro announced the grant in a Wednesday press release. It is part of a larger initiative supported by U.S. President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act and aims to “enhance energy efficiency and climate resilience for properties housing low-income individuals, families, and seniors.”
For The Towers at Tower Lane, which is managed by The New Haven Jewish Community Housing Corporation and provides affordable housing for seniors, these improvements will include “modernizing heating and cooling systems, improving insulation, installing energy-efficient windows, and implementing renewable energy solutions to The Towers at Tower Lane,” according to DeLauro.
The Towers is among 14 properties in HUD’s Section 8 project-based rental assistance program for low-income individuals and families to be receiving this substantial support. Read more about The Towers at Tower Lane’s previous expansion plans here.
