Kaleigh Ryann Garris was recently crowned Miss New England Sweetheart, beating out contenders from five New England states. Her father, New Havener Shawn Garris, sent in this write up.
Mayor John DeStefano congratulates Kaliegh Ryann Garris, who recently captured a regional pageant title. Kaliegh, 10, daughter of Shawn and Tammy Garris of New Haven, CT, was crowned Miss New England Sweetheart, during the Miss American Coed Regional competition on Aug. 22 in Framingham, MA. The regional competition includes participants from the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, and Vermont.
Kaliegh is a fourth grader at Calf Pen Meadow School in Milford, CT. She has been performing with the Alliance Children’s Theater for two years, and is a member of the United Girls Choir. In addition, she is an avid soccer player and a dedicated participant at the Yale’s Sib Shop which supports children who have siblings with special needs, and is a member of First Church of Christ on the Green in New Haven-Center Church.
As the Miss New England Sweetheart, Kaliegh will be attending the National Pageant for her age group in Orlando, FL during the week of Thanksgiving, where she will compete for the national pageant title of Miss American Sweetheart and thousands of dollars in cash awards, prizes, and scholarships.
