A day after the New York NOW chapter accused Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of betraying women by endorsing Barack Obama, Kiki Kennedy swung back at a New Haven Obama gathering.
Kiki Kennedy is Sen. Kennedy’s daughter-in-law. She lives in Branford and works as a psychiatrist in New Haven. She came to New Haven’s BAR restaurant Tuesday night at a gathering of Connecticut Women for Obama.
“I was saddened and surprised,” said Kiki Kennedy, to read how the New York chapter of the National Organization for Women slammed her father-in-law, one day after his endorsing Obama instead of Hillary Clinton.
“Women have just experienced the ultimate betrayal,” charged the NOW chapter in this blistering press release.
Kiki Kennedy called the rebuke a “kneejerk” position.
“It’s sexist to think that you have to vote for someone just because she’s a woman,” she said. “It’s sad that Clinton doesn’t offer us more,” but “I have to go with my gut instinct for what I think is right, rather than thinking about gender.”
