Update: 10:42 a.m.: The “unity” event has been postponed until next week. An Elicker campaign press release ascribed the delay to alleged “scheduling conflicts.”
A day after Justin Elicker won a Democratic mayoral primary, his campaign announced that Gov. Ned Lamont and Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz plan to headline a “unity” event to support him.
The “Democratic Unity Press Conference” is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Bar at 157 Orange St. That’s where Elicker held his victory party Tuesday night after defeating incumbent Toni Harp 58 – 42 percent in a mayoral primary.
The announcement came as Harp has remained mum on whether she plans to pursue her campaign to the Nov. 5 general election. The Working Families Party has Harp’s name on its ballot line for that election.
Lamont and Bysiewicz stayed neutral during the mayoral primary campaign.
Harp, by contrast, had endorsed Lamont for governor in the 2018 Democratic primary campaign.
